Everglades Tour - Near Shark Valley

It is said that there's nothing like going on safari in Africa and watching the sun rise on the Serengeti as wild animals roam the African plains. Here's the problem — it takes two whole days and lots of green to get to Kenya. But what most Miamians don't realize is that they can take a wildlife safari just as exotic without ever hopping on an airplane. Everglades National Park comprises about 1.5 million acres of land and is home to more than 350 species of birds, 27 species of snakes, 40 species of mammals, and hundreds of other reptiles and amphibians. The "River of Grass" has been called one of the great biological wonders of the world. Unlike many other wildlife areas, much of the Everglades cannot be accessed by foot or car — only by airboat. Fortunately, an airboat is one of the coolest modes of transportation ever. A flat-bottomed boat, powered by a gasoline engine with a big propeller, is fast, fun, and a little deafening. A two-hour private airboat safari for two starts at $375 and traverses about 17 miles of a secluded section called the Everglades and Francis S. Taylor Wildlife Management Area, which is abundant with wildlife. Are you a birder? Do you want to be surrounded by alligators? Or do you simply want to go fast? Tell your captain what you want to see and he'll tailor the safari to suit. Although no animal sightings are guaranteed, you are sure to have a wild time without ever getting your passport stamped.

There were 8 in our group, we all had a blast! We saw at least 51 alligators, we saw different kinds of birds and we saw turtles. Our Captain was Bill Brackin. He was very nice, gave us lots of information regarding the Everglades and took pictures for us. I would recommend this to anyone who loves the outdoors. Derek & Sheri from N.C. Visited March 2015

“A Highlight of our Miami Beach Vacation”

5 of 5 Stars - Reviewed March 10, 2015

This was definitely a highlight of our trip! First I'll say that the staff is AWESOME - it was pouring rain on the day of our tour and they were nice enough to call me in the morning and ask if I wanted to cancel or reschedule. I chose to cancel - but then decided later in the day that I wanted to go out the next morning and they squeezed me in no problem! We booked a private tour so we could get the pick-up since we didn't have a car. It was more expensive than a group tour but was worth it not having to find a taxi to take us there. 1 hour was a perfect tour length, we got to see a lot of gators and some cool birds. Our guide was Andy and he was great - very knowledgable about the area. One important tip - wear a jacket or sweatshirt! It is about 10 degrees colder than Miami and the boat goes very fast so there's a lot of wind. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience that you don't want to miss! Visited February 2015

“Airboat in Everglades - Awesome”

5 of 5 Stars - Reviewed March 8, 2015

This was one of the highlights of our vacation. We booked a private 1 1/2 hour tour. You meet at a gas station about a mile from the location of the airboats and then you follow them there. When I booked this, I was a little leary about meeting them there, being we were just mom and daughter going. But, they made us feel very safe from the start and were really nice guys running it. We got Capt Laz as our guide and he was superb. Definitely ask for him. He was very knowledgable and we saw many alligators and birds and he even took us to see baby alligators which was really cool. It was also fun going fast over the glades. This was well worth doing. So much fun. Thanks Capt. Laz! Visited March 2015

“Everglades airboat ride”

5 of 5 Stars - Reviewed March 7, 2015

Very nice and interesting airboat ride. There were 5 of us and we wanted something convenient on our layover day after a cruise. The ride was short, but we enjoyed it immensely - saw lots of birds and alligators. Guide made sure we got good pictures. Although it was odd meeting at a gas station, it worked out fine and it keeps their overhead low. We weren't looking for anything fancy - just an airboat ride. BTW, this may sound strange, but try the churros at the the little shack outside the gas station - OMG they were delicious! I had the chocolate filled, my aunt had the caramel filled and Mom had the plain - best churros we've ever had! Visited November 2014

“Airboat tour of Everglades - Must Do!”

5 of 5 Stars Reviewed September 5, 2014

We booked a private tour for two with Airboat in Everglades, and it was one of the most memorable parts of our Key West/Miami trip. When you book it, ask for Capt. Laz. He was great, very informative, had a great sense of humor, and took us to a couple of out of the way islands in the 'glades to see baby alligators scurrying around. VERY COOL! This is a must do, and the company is local, not one of those big overly commercial deals that herds you around. These guys were great, and gave us much more than we expected! Just Do It! “An absolute must”

5 of 5 Stars Reviewed September 1, 2014

I booked this up from our hotel in Miami without having the faintest idea what I was expecting. The end result was a totally brilliant trip with our excellent guide, Steve, who took me and my 3 children on a private tour (do this and not a mixed one). He was extremely informative and we learned a lot about the local wildlife, the eco system and a great way to repel mosquito bites...(make sure you wear long sleeved tops and jeans / trousers). We were lucky enough to come into contact with one of the area's most famous residents which also proved to be an unforgettable experience. The only very slight negative remark I can make is that it wasn't clear where we should meet the team prior to the actual boat trip, so you're looking for a Shell garage at junction of highway 41 and 997! It didn't detract from the memorable time though. Visited August 2014

Took airboat tour last week with a great airboat captain. He took us to see interesting fauna and amazing views of the Everglades. When we had only about 15 minutes left of our one-hour tour, our airboat broke down. We sitted in a canal full of alligators (a mixed feeling episode) for 20 minutes until another airboat picked us up. The new airboat was starting its tour and asked if we wanted continue the tour, to what we said yes. So, we ended up having a one-hour forty-minute tour. We have recently returned from an airboat ride through the Everglades and were amazed from start to finish. The guide was knowledgeable, courteous and enthusiastic ( despite no doubt doing the same trip hundreds of times before). The only dampner was the weather which turned bad with lightning half way into the trip - but safety first thankfully! I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone who wants to get up close and personal with the Everglades wildlife. To see the birds come and take treats from the boat and our hands then turn the corner and we came across an Aligator mother protecting her young was exactly what we wanted to see If you're thinking of booking a tour - just do it - you won't be disappointed Visited August 2014

“The highlight of our time in Miami” 5 of 5 Stars Reviewed August 8, 2014

I was almost a little worried showing up for our Airboats in Everglades tour that they might not meet our expectations after reading all these great reviews on Trip Advisor. Captain Willy most definitely exceeded our expectations! We booked a 90 minute private tour for the two of us. We had never been on an airboat before. I love the way these things glide over the water. If all we did was cruise around the Everglades for 90 minutes, I probably still would have returned to our car with a huge grin on my face. Captain Willy knows the Everglades and seems to love to share his knowledge. The way he shares his knowledge is also very entertaining. We learned a lot about the Everglades with him and had an absolute blast at the same time. Getting so close to the purple gallinules was a real treat and of course getting close to the alligators in their natural habitat was awesome as well. The only disappointment was realizing our 90 minutes was up. It's so much fun that it seems to just go by way too quickly. Visited August 2014
